I’ve Been On A Weight Loss Journey And Pretty Proud Of Myself

My motivation for embarking on this weight loss journey was to improve my overall health and potentially extend my lifespan. Despite being on medication for type 2 diabetes for 14 years, I found that it was not effectively controlling my blood sugar levels. This led to daily struggles with neuropathy and constant pain in my feet. Finally, in May of 2023, I made the decision to make a change. I started taking Ozempic injections, which helped stabilize my blood sugar for the first time. In October, after discussing with my doctor, I switched to Mounjaro and have been successfully maintaining normal blood sugar levels between 80-90 instead of experiencing dangerous spikes up to 400. My journey has been ongoing since then, but the results have been worth it.

From the beginning of my journey, I’ve been surprised by how much weight I’ve lost. My starting weight was 238 pounds, and I have no shame in sharing that number. Currently, I weigh 184 pounds, and I’m incredibly proud of myself. In total, I’ve lost 54 pounds and continue to shed more every day. Eating healthier has played a significant role in my weight loss; I no longer snack on junk food or dine at restaurants regularly because they are not conducive to my goals. I haven’t had soda in 15 years, so that’s not a temptation for me either. To stay on track, I prepare all of my meals for the week in advance. It’s amusing how you have to test yourself when you go grocery shopping – I purposely walk down the aisles with sweet or starchy foods just to see if I’ll give in, but my willpower has only grown stronger. Hooray for resisting temptation!

Many people judge and mock overweight individuals without realizing the struggles they may be going through or any underlying health conditions they may have. When I started my weight loss journey, I found inspiration from a couple of TikTok users who motivated me to stay positive and focused. One woman even checks in on my husband and me to see how our journeys are progressing, which is rare nowadays. This woman had also faced similar ridicule for her weight, with people making hurtful comments about her appearance. In my own experience, former family members have called me names like “fat ass,” “cow,” and “pig,” even editing animal faces onto my personal photos. While I brushed it off as ignorance from a 40-year-old woman, others may not have been able to handle such insults with the same resilience. It’s disheartening to see so much hate towards overweight individuals, to the point where some may even shut down their social media accounts due to bullying. It’s important to spread love and acceptance instead of tearing others down due to their weight.

Eating has become a struggle for me. I used to be able to eat large portions, but now I can barely manage a cup’s worth of food. Fortunately, my protein shake helps fill me up. Ever since I started taking these injections, I rarely feel hungry or think about food. In fact, there are times when I have to force myself to eat just for the sake of nourishment. These injections also make it important to avoid overeating, even if it’s just a small amount, or else I’ll end up sick in the bathroom. It’s happened to me twice and it was not a pleasant experience. On this weight loss journey, my husband has joined me and he’s seeing great results too. He’s been eating healthier and even indulges in soda on cheat days. He’s back to his old self, able to drive and go out again like he did before his illness. I’ll also be blogging about his progress and keeping everyone updated. Sadly, we’ve had some former family members who have said hurtful things, wishing that we would lose everything after my husband passes away. These are the same people who have attacked me, my children, and my grandchildren in the past. But my husband has turned his life around for the better and nothing can bring him down now, not even those spiteful words from those people. He’s not one to hold back his feelings and they never dared confront him face-to-face or on social media because they knew he wouldn’t stand for it. He sees them as insignificant and doesn’t waste his time on them anymore.

I believe I’ll end my day here, but I’ll return to discuss more about my experiences and outcomes. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that all of my lab tests have come back to normal – which is pretty amazing!
